Why we built rido
A ride can be cheaper for you and fairer to your driver at the same time. The only thing standing in the way is how much the middle takes — so we took less.
Where we started
Launching at UC San Diego.
We're starting small and close to home: a 6-month pilot around UCSD and San Diego, with $0 flat driver fees for the whole run. Commission still applies — we wanted the graduated structure proven with real drivers before it goes anywhere else.
The commission model
Graduated, transparent, published.
Like tax brackets — each band's rate applies only to the fares within it. No hidden math.
$0 – $1,000 / mo
20%
Starting band, on your first $1,000 of fares each month.
$1,000 – $3,000 / mo
12%
Middle band, on the next $2,000 of fares.
Above $3,000 / mo
8%
Top band, on every dollar past $3,000.
Example at $3,600 in monthly fares: driver keeps $3,112 with rido vs. ~$2,520 at a typical incumbent's 30% flat cut.
